Does Africa have anything to teach the world?

africaAfrica has many challenges, but I believe that Africa, and specifically South Africa, has a way of life and of managing relationships that may be of value to business people in other parts of of the world.

A quick glance through the list (of 50 items) shows that SA has had much to show Africa and has been ranking well in relation to countries of the world.

South African managers are earning disposable incomes that are higher than those in many developed countries.
  • South Africa was ranked as the 18th most attractive destination for Foreign Direct Investment
  • Three South African cities were voted amongst the world's top 100 Most Liveable Cities (including Johannesburg wink)
  • South Africa has been ranked 28th among 108 countries measured for responsible competitiveness
  • South Africa is ranked 20th out of a total of 128 economies in the World Economic Forum's (ahead of the US & Switzerland)
  • South Africa ranks 57th out of 157 countries in the world in terms of economic freedom
  • South Africa ranks in the top four countries worldwide in terms of the transparency surrounding its budgets
  • South Africa is ranked 35th out of 178 countries for ease of doing business
  • South African media ranks 26th out of 167 countries (Makes you gag at how bad the others must be!)
  • The Johannesburg Stock Exchange was the 7th best performing stock market

With another 'quick fact being 'Johannesburg has been ranked as the eighth cheapest city in the world for expatriates', and the number of expats hanging around the golf club, it would seem they've already figured good reason to be here.

South Africa (at the foot of Africa) is relatively isolated from the business world. Knowledge and acceptance of what SA has to offer, which I believe the world cup in 2010 will achieve for us, is of great importance.
